Like every billy joel live album, songs in the attic makes me feel like i'm actually there, standing in front of the stage! people should vote 4 songs in the attic....
He hasnt lost a step in his performance since he started. He is a true showman. And being from long island, I truly appreciate him and his music. To listen to him singing and have had experiences in some of the same places he's singing about, I feel like I kind of feel what he felt. I have seen him like 12 or 13 times and each time is like the first. If I could see him play once a week, I would. He is the BEST.
ealy cheer me up and they help me think when im doing my homeworkbut my fav part of all of his songs is when i get to school no body knows about billy joel so it makes me feel as if i know something that is better than anything else anyone knows and that keeps me happy all day so keep on rocking billy, diploma | homeschool online | homeschool | earn diploma

I personally voted for 12 gardens because it has everything,it represents all that is great about mr joel. I admit it is a tough call to pick just one for example stilleto on the russian album is sublime and songs in the attic is flawless but 12 gardens just pips it for me
This album came out at a good time for me , with memorable songs. 1980.
In answer to redannie54. I believe We didn't start the fire is made up of big events that have happened through Billy's years to the time of the song. I think we can all look back and choose from a multitude of worldwide media. But why did he picked those and got them to rhyme? you'd have to ask the master himself.
Does anyone know the true story about why he wrote this song? We are doing an informative essay on it and I have been searching and searching for the reason for it and the people, places and events he mentions. I have my theories but would love some input....Please???
I believe that William Martin Joel is the greatest song writer of the last 35 years.
besides from being a prolific piano player, (which is evident in such songs as AYM, SHF, M2017 and many more) he possesses a raw timbre in his vocals that is truly unique.
I was introduced to the abyss of his talent as a young boy and have loved and cherished his songs for 3 decades.
my favourite songs would have to be GS, AYM, Leningrad, TDA.... oh god its hard to narrow it down to a few.
i would have to say that the notes he hits in some of his songs would rival any pop or rock singer in the world. for e.g in the song 'honesty'....the phrase reaching the finale of the song...."is hardly ever he--eaa-rd.."
and mostly what i ...... and also the notes that are hit in the chorus of 'an innocent man' ...( im not referring to the falcetto notes) . WOW truly remarkable!!
my point is that i have heard billy talk about himself on interviews and how he fails to recognise the quality of his vocals...WRONG!!!!!! a great singer...absolutely. any one who disagrees with this wouldnt know their butt-hole from their elbow..
favourite albums are SITA, TS, turnstiles, the bridge, piano man, glass houses.. ah s***!, i love all of 'em.
yes and even california flash!!
keep on turnin out the art mate, because your songs are thier own reward!
July 16th and 21st will be historic in the city of chicago. First we had Jimmy buffett then the police now the 2 piano men will invade the friendly confines of Wrigley Field. We know they are both baseball fans (Billy of the Yankees and Elton the Braves) but the baseball is secondary. It took almost 80 years to get concerts at Wrigley Field, now they will make history again. As if they haven't made enough separately. I have seen them together 5 times total and there is no doubt I will make it six. I don't what is better Billy and elton together at wrigley or a cubs world championship! Wait a second, as a diehard Cub fan after 100 years.... I might need to flip a coin. .....
This song is one about some kinds of love being just one big lie between two people. Take a guy who is on the rebound, he's liable to pick up some girl because she's cute and he's trying to make his ex jealous. He may stay with her, but more often than not, he won't. Up until then, it was 'A Matter of Trust'

Piano Man #1
As a long-time Billy Joel fan, there is no doubt in my mind that "Songs In The Attic" is the best of Billy's live material and, quite possibly, is one of his BEST albums PERIOD.
The fact that this album highlighted songs like "She's Got A Way" (making it a hit the second time around), "Miami 2017" (much, much better live), "Summer, Highland Falls" (what a great song ... comparable to the original but outstanding in live form), "Los Angelenos" (so much more powerful live than studio), "Say Goodbye To Hollywood" (which became a hit in its live form), "Captain Jack" (a Billy solo concert standard), ... I could go on! I love the album from beginning to end ... not a bad song in the bunch. Not many albums have EVER had my attention like this one. I even used "You're My Home" at my wedding reception ...
If you own ONE album besides a Billy Joel greatest hits collection and besides "The Stranger" (which every serious Billy fan MUST own), you MUST own SONGS IN THE ATTIC. It is quite simply AMAZING.
You know, if you loved his music and his words before you should still love them. I saw him on a C-SPAN special saying why he did the concert - and he said because in Dante's Inferno they reserve the lowest level of hell for those people who never took a stand, one way or the other. I think it was brave for him to finally support something political. Besides, what do you think Leningrad and Goodnight Saigon is about? He's clear about wanting political walls to be broken down, so all nations could become friends - and that's part of what Obama is about. Plus in Shades of Gray, he says clearly that with age you do realize there are two points of every view. He stood up for the view he felt closest to. His music still rocks and his lyrics are still inspiring. A true fan wouldn't stop being a fan because of 1 differing point of view. I was upset when I heard that he drove drunk and crashed up his car - I can't respect him for that behavior, but his words and music is still true, and I still love him!
i've been a fan since my best friend introduced me to billy joel in high school. i feel that (though he is several years older than I), we've grown up together. i think that his river of dreams album (my age is showing) had the most thoughtful lyrics since cold spring harbor. though i'm not as fond of his "hits" as a lot of the other stuff, i continue to call him my favorite poet. he is also a great performer, though i've not yet seen him live. i'm trying to find tickets which won't cost 500 for a couple, as my husband isn't quite the fan i am and i don't expect him to pay so much to see someone he doesn't feel excited to see. (now if Johnny Cash were alive...)
The Songs in the Attic disc is the real Billy, the Pianoman I remember from back in the day. He is and always will be the piano player I will never be.......AND PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come back to Philly with the Rocket Man!!!!!! Other than your concerts that is the only other one I will not put a price limit on!!!!!
i grew up with the songs of Billy Joel. Songs in the Attic....wow, hit every nail in the head with his career up to that point.....it has and will always be my favorite live album of all time...I encourage all of my friends to listen to it and to any Billy Joel song and or CD........Thanks Billy for the memories...I'm looking forward to the show in Charlotte, NC....

Billy Joel is a great man, artist and pianist. His songs are always great and are addicting to listen to. My favorite is Uptown Girl and I just want to listen to his songs all the time!!!!!!!!
Hey Billy next time you're in Milwaukee it would be cool to go out and have a beer with you. What do you think? I'll buy. and another thing could you play Summer Highland Falls or All You Want To Do Dance?
Thanks Henry Sifuentes
I've been seeing you since November 6th 1980 in Pittsburgh. Many concerts we have shared together. Twice in 2008- Milwaukee and Columbus.
You have always been a great inspiration to my life. Still to this day, your words speak the poetic truth. Never aging. I have been so blessed to have lived during your time!!! You are by far a great influential lyricist and individual! May I meet with you?
I will be seeing you again soon! Thank you so much for the words you leave with us.
Billy Joel if you read this know this, Steve Schwee is your biggest fan. I am in awe of you and your special work. I have seen you live and would love to see you play again one day. You have no idea what an inspiration you are to me. I listen to your videos and cds all the time. I hope you are healthy and safe. I love to watch your band as well. They are very talented. I loved seeing you play with Ray Charles. You rock!! Your friend always, Steve.
Have seen you many times. During an encore in Charlotte you gave me your Heineken, and Liberty gave my Mom a set of his drumsticks. I also gave you 8X10's of you playing your white baby grand and you placed it on the piano for the rest of the show. I can not wait to see you in Jacksonville, FL on the second of March!
Stay healthy and safe!

Awesome cd. I think it's his best live album EVER! He rocks! All the songs on the album rule!!! Even though they are not one continuous concert they still rule, and like billy says. If you want the full affect turn your stereo full sound and invite some of your cranky neighbors over!
When you are setting up your next tour schedule going out west please set up at least one concert here in the beautiful enchanted state of New Mexico. Those of us in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe metro area (1 million strong) would love a chance to hear you playing live outdoors at any one of a few venues here in central New Mexico. I've had the good fortune to see Bill and Band play once live at Wembley Arena when I was stationed in the UK back in the 1980's and I'd love to see a show again. Stop on by and see us! We are ready!! Its great in the summertime
I am a very big Billy Joel fan and one of my friends sent this to me. It's a video made by ??? it may say on the link but I didn't really notice. I thought I would share it with other Billy Joel fans and see what they think. I thought it was Kwel but you all can let me know. Later..........BILLY JOEL ROCKS!!!

Though I really think entertainers should keep their political views silent. It is nice to see that some people despite all their money and successes don't forget where they come from. Billy Joel and Bruce Springteen teaming up to support Barrack Obama is a great thing and hopefully right wing racists will learn to adapt to a brighter more "colorful" America. For anyone who ever actually listened to Billy's lyrics there is no doubt which side of the political spectrum he sees.
I am very unhappy to learn that Billy is following Springsteen, and supporting a Radical for persident, that may endanger our country and our childrens future. I am shocked that Billy would support Obama, I cant believe he has given this much thought.
a billy fan for 25 plus years i too have all his recordings and have seen him 4 times in the uk (it would have been 5 but we wont mention the concert he cancelled with Elton !)
i consider myself to be a unique fan my eldest son is called William and my youngest son's middle name is Joel. However beat this if you can i live next to a couple called Brenda and Eddie, HONEST (Scenes from and Italian restaurant) only one of my fave songs!
Can't wait for the main man to perform again in the UK,even better, record some new material, got all the compilation cd's i need!
How disappointing, after being a fan for 33 yrs-beginning with the days when live concerts in Scranton, PA were $8.00, continuing through this summer in Hershey, PA, to hear Billy Joel going political by performing at a fund raiser for Obama next month....I guess Hershey was my last concert!!!!!!!!!!!!

Angry Young Man is the best performance on that Cd since 2000 years, Miami 2017 awesome, Matter of Trust, true rock n roll. They should of put on Chainsaw's Highway To hell, that would have been sweet
Each of Billy's concert albums offer something different that make it hard to choose. But...The Carnegie Hall Concert just released on "The Stranger 30th Anniv. Edition"...may be the absolute best...if you can imagine a Richie Cannata sax solo in an 8 minute take of "New York State of Mind" and an announcement that they're going to play a new song "Just the Way You Are"...amazing that there was a time before that song was a hit!
Buy this new box set!!! The Best Live stuff yet!!!
Songs in the attic, probably the best live album.
I do love 12 Gardens, it has 2 CDs worth of great songs but doesn't have Captin Jack, Los Angelenos or Summer, Highland Falls so Songs in the Attic got my vote
