I found Billy Joel for the first time in my life when I grew up in Havana, Cuba. He performed a concert at the Karl Marx theater on 1979 if I recall right, I was a teenager and I attend to it. The experience since the opening with "The Stranger" was awesome and shocked me in awe. Well is not necessary to mention that since then I was a fan of him and always tried to listen to his songs in a short wave radio, remember yet recording those songs,then a friend of the family , a Colombian doctor who visited Cuba frequently happened to have a brother that owned a radio station in Cali, and has supplies of albums, so the doctor always came with albums of Billy Joel as I requested him as a favor. To make this short, is kind of a rant already, I grew and become a fan of him for all my life, raised my 3 children listening to him to the point that my daughter,at 23 years old, asked to come with me to the concert he performed at the Miami Arena about 2 years ago. It was as always an awesome experience and I shared it with my daughter .
Billy Joel is and always will be my number one favorite musician and singer. He shaped my life even without noticing it that much myself.
