New Billy Joel Q&A - Do You Sing With Alexa And Will You Write Songs Together?

Here is the latest video from our Billy Joel "Questions & Answers" lecture series, featuring Billy answering questions at the Hamptons International Film Festival. During the Q&A session, an audience member asked Billy if he sings with his daughter, Alexa, and if they ever plan to write songs together.

The Q&A session took place after a screening of "The Last Play At Shea" documentary film, which is now available on DVD. The full concert release "Live At Shea Stadium: The Concert" is also available on CD and DVD.

Re: New Billy Joel Q&A - Do You Sing With Alexa And Will You Write Songs Together?

I think that even if she didn't get into music, its sweet that these two can jam together. On the flip side, I think that even if Billy wasn't who he is, hopefully it would still be the same and she would do music. Earlier in the year I went on her site and watched some of her videos. I feel bad because in my effort to describe why I like her music and where I believe her talents lay, I couldn't help but mention how difficult it must be having Billy Joel as a father, and trying to get into the music business. However, I can't help but try to compare the two, just because I love when things are kept in the family. Like entire families of actors can all be great at what they do, and be completely different. Its still fun to dissect just what may be influencing them from their family members. Just like I find it adorable she did the shampoo commercial. I guess its good they don't write together, because that would make it easier for her to do her own thing, obviously. However, I personally think that would be cool. Oddly, I find that they are both unique, in a similar way. Long story short, I think its great.

Also, someone be sure to tell Billy that my husband will be celebrating his big 3-0 on May 9th, and that we will be sending him birthday wishes too. He could not be a bigger fan. Lots of people have the same birthdays, but music is his thing, and he loves the Joel.
