Billy Joel London Concert Gets Five-Star Review - See Photos And Set List

Now freed from the prejudices of the past, a new generation is being bowled over by the sheer force and heart of Billy Joel’s material, and an enthusiastic audience gave him his dues.

In exchange for this faith, the pugnacious Joel delivered the big hitters with crowd-stirring flair, from debut single "Piano Man" and his sole UK number one "Uptown Girl" to fan favorites "We Didn’t Start The Fire" and "Allentown." He twirled the mic-stand like a hefty majorette during the stomp of "It’s Still Rock and Roll To Me" and inserted “Rule Britannia” into "The River of Dreams," where he proved his falsetto could still drift upwards into an everyman’s spiritual. It’s by no means his best song on record, but live it proved a warm, uplifting embrace: a big boxer’s bear hug at the end of a knockout night. Five stars.

It was indeed a memorable evening...my fourth time seeing him but the first for around 20 years. Superb voice still - I had fretted that, like Paul McCartney and Elton John, it might be showing signs of aging but no, as good as ever.

A tremendous concert and fully deserved the 5-stars in the UK papers....I sincerely hope that the rumours that he will be returning next year are true.

One correction to your set-list, though - he did NOT play Downeaster 'Alexa', much to my disappointment.

Billy Joel has been my hero since I was a little girl. I'll spare you the details as to why, but seeing him, at last, in London was the biggest dream come true I've ever had.

His entrance (from pitch darkness to sudden lights as he roared into 'My Life') was as majestic as his demeanor, as he powered through two hours like a man of twenty five. He sung all the crowd-pleasers, which were made all the better by the crowd themselves, who all seemed just as excited as I was, dancing and singing along. I was happy to hear some tracks for the die-hard fans as well, such as 'Where's the orchestra' and 'Vienna' which I adored. My personal favourite, 'She's always a woman', bought a tear to my eye, as I remembered my seventeen-year-old self dancing to it as I consoled myself over heartbreak, knowing that no-one but Billy understood.

Now, the band. Each player was an amazing talent alone. The were outstanding, and reproduced the original tracks with riffs to spare. The warm-up act, Fyfe Dangerfield, was also enjoyable - a quirky sort of recluse but with worlds of talent.

So... I saw my hero. The man who shaped my own songwriting... and he was even better than I could have imagined. Thank you Billy!

Re: Billy Joel London Concert Gets Five-Star Review - See Photos And Set List

After anxious sweating on the phone for what seemed like a eternity some months ago to bag some tickets, the big day finally arrived. 6 of us travelled 80 miles to London, and to say we were excited was an understatement.

This show was the most amazing concert I have ever been too and up there with one of the greatest nights of my life. I have waited so long to see Billy in concert. My mum blasting out "innocent man" when I was a young girl in the 80's got me hooked. The concert and Billy's performance was everything I hoped it would be and more. The set list was wonderful ( apart from the absence of innocent man Eye-wink)

We were buzzing all the way home on the train and my tour t-shirt is now my most treasured possession ( that and my kids photos Smiling.

Thank you Billy Joel for a memory that will stay with me forever. One off the bucket list!
