You may know that Billy and Christie’s daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, was admitted to the Hospital on Saturday December 5th, 2009. We are happy to report that she is doing well, and appreciate your many kind words and compassionate support. However, some media outlets chose to sensationalize and distort the facts, hence, Billy and Christie have issued the following statement.
“Every parent can imagine the pain and anguish we face as parents of a daughter who is working to recover from the dangerous actions she took while suffering a devastating heartbreak. As much as we hate dignifying tabloid stories with a response, we feel we must set the record straight to protect our family. The story that ran in the New York Post on December 8th, and has been subsequently spread across the Internet, is filled with vicious lies and attempts to smear our character and that of our beloved daughter. We ask the public and legitimate media outlets to please “consider the source” and to not further exacerbate our daughter’s situation by repeating and legitimizing these false reports.

I'm not so naive as to think my message will stand out amongst the other well-wishers in this community, but I wanted to try.
I was hospitalized on January 2nd for a suicide attempt associated with a mental disorder, and without sounding insensitive, the fact that you, someone I admire as a person and a musician, have experienced something similar is a source of great comfort to me.
And now I find out that Alexa has dealt with it as well, all I can say is I'm sorry, and I hope she never has to deal with it again. Once is enough! I don't obviously know the specific circumstances, but being hospitalized for that sort of thing is harrowing, and humiliating, and lots more that I don't think I need to mention.
Anyhoo, thanks for being you, and still being human. Most of all for still being alive! My thoughts are with you and Alexa and I'm looking forward to reading your autobiography!

I had no idea this was going on. I'm sorry. I admire you for being able to follow through with your concert tour even in the midst of such a stressful concern in your personal life. Thank you for a great show and I wish your daughter well in her recovery.
We watched the concert in SLC last night and it was incredible!! Thank you for your graciousness and showmanship as an entertainer. It was a wonderful experience for me and my family. My 8 year old son was in attendance and as a budding piano artist it was inspiring to him. Thank you.

It is always tense at times like these, so I wish you the best. I've been lucky enough to avoid moments like these, though because of an injury some time ago and the complications that followed I'm afraid I subject my wife/daughter to the same tensions you are going through regularly. They would be able to offer proper empathy, but I'm afraid all I can do is hope things proceed perfectly and offer my sympathy. Hope that's worth something.

I am so sorry you are all going through such a hard time right now and even more that people are so cold that they would attack such a wonderful girl. Alexa has remained out of the press over the years and the press should have respected her privacy now. Although I of course do not know her, she appears to be a wonderful girl with the charm and grace beyond her years. Please convey to her that this is not what anyone worth a grain of salt will think of when thinking of her, what they will think of is her talent and how she has always maintained a clean lifestlye unlike so many younger hollywood kids. She is beautiful and you both I'm sure are very proud of her. May God bless her and you both during the difficult time but again please assure her that nobody is judging her as they shouldn't and that she should continue to hold her head up high.

Privacy is understandable. I just want to leave a note of strength, peace and understanding to pass on to Ms. Alexa. It is blessed to have a family who cares. Life is crazy sometimes, and "Why do I go to extremes" needs to be heard. Recommendation: make your "voice" loud, as in my personal experience, as being quite a survivor of many thingss, many people can choose to be "deaf".

Well let's see how do I say this without offending anyone.. I know Billy Joel spent some time in a place called Soth Oaks as a suicide survivor, I too tried to committ sucide in 1985 at age 37, I began a life after that visit to South Oaks also that now is beyond my wildest dreams. My younger daughter 6 years ago also tried to committ suicide... today her life is amazing.
Sometimes people just think there is no way out of the big black tunnel and they don't see the light.
I hope and pray that Billy and Christy will show Alexa there is a way out. Billy certainly has shown her that over the past few years. I feel Elton John has been a positive person in Billy's life
