Lyrics:
Come out Virginia, don't let me me wait
You Catholic girls start much too late
But sooner or later it comes down to fate
I might as well be the one
They showed you a statue and told you to pray
They built you a temple and locked you away
But they never told you the price that you pay
For things that you might have done...
Only the good die young
You might have heard I run with a dangerous crowd
We ain't too pretty we ain't too proud
We might be laughing a bit too loud
But that never hurt no one
Come on Virginia show me a sign
Send up a signal I'll throw you the line
The stained-glass curtain you're hiding behind
Never lets in the sun
And only the good die young
You got a nice white dress and a party on your confirmation
You got a brand new soul
And a cross of gold
But Virginia they didn't give you quite enough information
You didn't count on me
When you were counting on your rosary
They say there's a heaven for those who will wait
Some say it's better but I say it ain't
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints
Sinners are much more fun...
And only the good die young
You say your mother told you all that I could give you was a reputation
She never cared for me
But did she ever say a prayer for me?

Thank you
This is what make me think of people who die younger than the others, lol.. There are many examples of good people who die earlier. Should I turn bad? free advertising |USA jobs |steam showers
But we must all die-but not before we live
It is so kool! Taking a well-known phrase like that and putting it in a tune. It is a great way to convince a girl to give in! But I agree it could be taken the wrong way-as a slam to the Catholics. But it is just a way of showing that one's beliefs can get in the way of having what you really want. One must outweigh the other.
Great song
I like this song but it reminds me of my boyfriend who died because of a drunk driver in 1978. That's about the same time this song came out and well, every time I hear it I remember my boyfriend. He died just 3 weeks shy of his 23rd birthday and I was 21. His death devasted me and now today I still remember him even though I've been married to someone else for 28 years. I love my husband very much and am so thankful for that while I still feel guilty about my ex boyfriends death. He never got to have what I have and it's not fair. My boyfriend hadn't drank that night but went to pick up a friend who had been drinking. He was trying to do the right thing and well, it went wrong. Dont drink and drive and most importantly, don't let friends drink and drive!!
BEST SONG EVER!
I know that when this song was released, it stirred up a LOT of controversy because it's about a boy trying to convince a girl to have sex with him. But I'm Catholic, and I'm not in the least offended, because it's meant to entertain, not bash Catholicism. Stating your opinions in a song is the beauty of this country--we have freedom of speech! This song is great, it will ever continue to be the soundtrack to my summers, my favorite beach song!
