When the album came out in 1981, "fans" were surprised at the song listings. There were no songs from Glass houses, 52nd Street or The Stranger! Where did these songs come from? These people were the next generation fans. These were Fans who had never heard of Billy Joel before "The Stranger". I know , because was one of them. The album was released to set a certain goal and it did exactly what it was set out to do and that was to introduce these new fans to Pre-Stranger material. The songs sounded a little raw but that was it's intention. The songs were played LIVE and played in different settings. Even Billy admitted when he wrote inside the album jacket, that these songs were picked for the album and done in different settings to get the actual feel of these tunes. When the new fan heard this album, it opened up volumes to Billy Joel's music and so the next chapter began. It was like opening up a present at Christmas time! My Goodness! He's got 4 other albums? Let's buy 'em! That's what I did. So, in reviewing this album in one word or less - Discovery. I give the Album a 10/10. 5 for the well played tunes and 5 for the introduction of my new presents!
