Corrected/More Detailed Setlist

Big Nationals fan, frequent visitor to the park, this was the first concert at the venue. First time seeing Elton/Billy together since MCI Center, '01 or '02. Awesome! The opening duet set was cut very short because Elton's sustain pedal was malfunctioning. He stormed off stage, while Billy took off his suit jacket, climbed under Elton's piano and tried to fix it, auto-mechanic style, much to the crowd's delight. To no avail, though, so Billy's band came out and they went into their set. The crowd seemed slightly more into Billy for the rest of the night. We were sitting in between two sets of speakers so we were hearing the delay, which was really annoying, until we realized we could stand in the concourse and have the same view with better sound, plus HD monitor to look at. Below is the full setlist.

BILLY/ELTON TOGETHER
Your Song (just pianos, no band)
Just The Way You Are (just pianos, minimal percussion and sax solo)
Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (abandoned/Elton piano malfunction)

Once Again... OUTSTANDING

Billy Joel and Elton John took on the Nation's Captial last night July 11, 2007 by storm. Show started off in usual Face to Face fashion until a "Pedal Malfunction" caused Joel to attempt to fix John's piano and fill time by playing American Standards such as "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah" and "Yankee Doodle Dandy." The Pedal Malfunction also caused Elton John to exit the stage until he was sure his piano was in perfect working order.

Billy Joel led off the night with his set. Joel's set seemed to be a greatest hits of the greatest hits diplay. Billy Joel has a way of making his audience feel like a part of the show and didn't disappoint. On this night, Joel seemed to have a boost of energy and looked to be having as much fun as the audience as he performed classic after classic. Joel joked with the audience between songs, in typical Billy fashion, and traded in the piano for the guitar on "We Didn't Start the Fire," a crowd pleaser.

Elton John took the stage next and displayed to his audience nothing short of perfection. Moving between chat-topping classics and album cuts, the crowd at National's Park stood amazed, as Elton played an 11 minute version of "Rocket Man" that was truly a musical journey. Elton changed tempos and switched between musical genres during the extended concert ending.

Perhaps the highlight of the night was when Joel and his band rejoined Elton and his band to alternate between some of their finest know pieces including, "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues" and "My Life."

A truly captivating moment were the last two songs which feature Elton and Billy at their respective pianos playing "Candle in the Wind" and finally "Piano Man" without the bands. It was an incredible feeling seeing the two greatest in the world playing the songs that got them to legendary status.

Seats At Concert

There are not any really bad seats at Nat's Park unless you're in the 500 section. I thought the set-up was well designed. I managed to score good seats in the 117 Section event though I had to buy them from Stub-Hub because Tickets.Com Failed the day they went on sale.

Awesum concert !!!

Washinton DC

The Concert was great last night in our Nations Capital.
National's Baseball Park is a great venue.
We definitely dodged the rain, although it looked iffy for a while.
This was my first time seeing Billy. Great performer. Saw Elton at the Verizon Center a couple of years ago that was an awsum concert too.
Elton was definitely pissed about the pedal !!
Does any one have the Set List for last nights concert ??

Billy (and Elton) Do It Again!

The bottom line: This show made July 11th the best day of my life.

Billy and Elton were divine. They were like gods behind the massive black grand pianos, the keys producing some of the greatest music ever written at their whim. But also, they were distinctly human...Billy sharing some of his marriage tribulations and getting overtly annoyed at some sort of bug (he had a fly swatter!) and Elton disgruntled by a stuck pedal on his piano (which Billy crawled under in an attempt to help his friend).

The set itself was also something to behold. Two giant posters depicting New York and London hanging on either side of the stage, and some of the best outdoor lighting I have ever seen completed the atmosphere. And where was all of this viewed from? We had some of the "worst" seats in the stadium (but what seats could be bad at this concert!?), and still the magic of the music and the energy traveled all the way up to us up in section 404.

What an amazing night.

almost there

We are just about to board our plane in Amsterdam. Just two more days and we will be sitting in the arena to watch this amazing show. If they won't come to Holland, then we will get to them. Last time Billy Joel was at the Garden during the millenium change. NEver seen Elton live, so this will be our best show ever.

Can't come soon enough...

I have tickets for the 11th. This will be the first concert I have attended since the Rolling Stones at Madison Square Garden sometime in the 80s. Only for this combo of Billy and Elton would I venture into National's Stadium. It just doesn't get better than this.
