I'm attending both of Billy's Melbourne concert and the first night certainly didn't disappoint!!
After the usual great start of Angry Young Man and my favourite - MY LIFE, I thought Billy's voice sounded better than ever for the first half of the concert as he breezed through great songs like Vienna, The Entertainer and Zanzibar.
I'm not a fan of the song New York State of Mind, but as usual Billy did it well.
But the Best part of the set started again with River of Dreams and into the more "dancier" numbers. I got up on my feet for We Didn't Start the Fire (and that guy who sat behind me and didn't like it - tough! You should have been upd ancing too! hehe) and kept going during Still Rock & Roll to me (loved his microphone tricks - I have been practising mine!) and was very suprised to hear Sometimes a Fantasy added to the set-list. I wasn't familiar with this song, but have been listening to it oevr and over ever since and hope he sings it again tonight.
But I wouldn't change anything about the first concert (except maybe for Billy on the cordless mic and wandering around during Big Shot, rather than at the Piano!) and can't wait to be on my feet for the Piano Man again tonight...
This was the second time I have attended a Billy Joel concert and it was FANTASTIC!!
The fact that the concert SOLD OUT, and Billy had to do a second separate show; further proves this point. This time was even better than first/last time I saw him, which was 2 years ago (on Friday November 10, 2006.)
From the opening song (“Prelude/Angry Young Man”) to the final encore (“Piano Man”), the concert kept moving along at a steady pace. Most people’s favourites were there, just to name a few: “Big Shot”, “The Entertainer”, “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”, “My Life”, “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “You May Be Right”.
You can just tell when Billy’s about to play Piano Man, when he puts on his harmonica, and the crowd goes in a frenzy of cheers, clapping and singing. The only down side was: “Highway to Hell” and “Christmas in Fallujah” which I didn't enjoy as these songs were too loud!!!
Next time that Billy Joel comes to Melbourne (for a solo concert), I hope that he plays his famous instrumental: “Root Beer Rag” at both concerts, because I will most certainly be there at one of them.

It was a pure honour to see Billy at work last night. He was BRILLIANT. The energy he generates on stage, the way he can swing from a ballad like "Just the way you are" and within minutes be pounding out Zanzibar keeps the audience enthrawled. I've been to many many concerts over the past 5 years (including a previous Billy tour) - but last night Billy was at his best. The band didn't skip a beat and Billy is the consumate showman. Thanks for the memories!
Even though you didn't say Happy Birthday you got right in our faces with that guitar on Highway to Hell ;o) What a great performance! I will certainly be back for more! Please come and visit us again soon.
Finally my chance to see Billy Joel! All those years living in the USA and I never got the chance. Now my wife and I are seeing him on the eve of our birthday (yes - we share the same birthday!) and it's our present to each other.
We're in the front row of Lower Section 10, so if you see this Billy we'd love a wave Thanks for all the years of great music!

10 years ago, I bought 2 tickets as a gift to take my Mum to see Billy play Wembley Arena (London). The night before the concert he pulled out due to ill health.
After Billy pulled out we decided not to go see Elton by himself. I never got the opportunity to keep that promise.....until now.
10 years later Billy plays tomorrow night in Melbourne. I bought 2 tickets and my Mum has flown out from the UK to Melbourne - unknowing she was going to see Billy.
So here's to a great gig tomorrow in Melbourne - and thanks for giving me the opportunity to keep my promise to my Mum!!
My favorite artist in my favorite town in my favorite country. How good can you get it? Too bad I can't be there. Hope you come to The Netherlands next year Billy!
Love, Eva

Gets Better With Age
I have seen Billy in every tour he has bought to our shores since 1994.
Always the professional - no words can describe how to sum him up as an entertainer although, brilliant, fantastic, amazing, spring to mind.
No one will ever top this songwriter/ entertainer/ performer. Much loved and appreciated show last night, please come back soon.
