I was in Korea for a year teaching English, but two months in I saw a poster advertising for this concert. I couldn't believe Billy was coming to Seoul. My friend and I went, and brought a couple of Korean girlfriends, but they didn't know who Billy was. I actually wound up breaking up with my girlfriend in the begininning of the show, but the concert just got better and better.
Our seats were really far away, and everyone was sitting down, no one was into it. It was like the crowd wanted to see classical music being played. So I was a little bummed out. However, the girl that I brought cried and ran out of the concert (basically because I broke up with her), but I was determined not to let anything ruin my Billy experience. So, I snuck down to the lower levels, where I hid behind some seats for a while. Then, the infamous River of Dreams scene occured, where Billy stopped the song in order to get the crowd at the front. When this happened, I bolted to the front row! I wound up having the greatest time, singing and dancing, and meeting new people. You could tell there weren't many experienced BJ fans, but everyone was having a good time.
Concertwise, it wasn't Billy's best performance. His heart wasn't totally into it, but he was having a lot of fun and made it fun for everyone watching. At one point, I think he threw the mic stand in the air and dropped it, but his voice was still singing...I guess pre-recorded???? Kind of lame, but either way he is a great performer! Probably my favorite experience in my year in Korea.

i was thrilled to take my little korean wife up to seoul for the best concert in 20 years... i last saw billy in 1988 in indianapolis while in high school. he may have gained a few lbs. but his voice and energy are still the same... how awsome... our favorite part was the AC/DC cover of Highway to Hell... not only did it sound great but the roadie chainsaw sang it to a T... i have yearned for a good concert to come to korea after teaching here for almost 4 years and my prayers were answered and not by byonce... thanks for making the effort in coming all the way to korea and best of luck on the rest of your journey through asia... Michael and Gin in Changwon...

As an American, this was the first time I saw Billy Joel live in another country. The day was very rainy and gloomy, but I arrived two hours early and walked around a local park nearby. Even though the sky was grey and the ground light brown, I felt invigorated and on top of the world.
The stadium itself was cold, but that was no problem because Billy warmed it up quickly. He played many of his usual songs, the big hits like "Just the Way You Are" and "It's Still Rock and Roll to Me", of which the Korean women sitting next to me had no problem singing along to. I had tried to start a simple conversation with them in English before the concert, but they seemed to have a hard time understanding me. Since I had very limited Korean, we didn't get very far. Later, when I heard them singing along, I was quite impressed that these two Koreans knew nearly every word to Billy's songs but couldn't get through a conversation. I think that says a lot about how Billy Joel has impacted the world with his music, and I "bonded" somewhat with the women as we sang many of his songs together.
This was the 5th concert that I've seen of Billy Joel. I have to say that at every concert he provides something steady and something new. He usually plays a similar routine of the same hits, but there are always surprises and witty, sarcastic and dry comments that strike me as hilarious. Always, I witness something I've never seen or heard before.
At this concert, the parts that were "new" for me were the following. One of Billy Joel's guitar technicians, Chainsaw, came out and did a gospel rendition (a-hem) of "Highway to Hell" (AC/DC). What can I say? It redeemed me (snicker, snicker).
This was also the first time I heard "Zanzibar" live. Carl Fischer's trumpet solo brought me to some super-conscious level that left praying to the priests.
Many of his old band members, including Mark Rivera, looked exceptionally good and played top notch solos and performances. Any time that time may have had on these guys and gals certainly didn't hold any of them back.
At one point, I thought he was yelling at the audience. My seat was on the floor to stage left, about 100 feet from his piano. It seems "security" was, at one point, trying to keep people harnessed where people started leaving the front of stage right (after they had rushed there). Billy's response? "Where are you going? Get back here!" (paraphrasing). Fans came running and screaming back.
For those who are thinking of going to see Billy Joel, don't think about it, just do it. Every concert of his is fantastic, uplifting, energizing, and redeeming. I was so impressed that after all these years, he and his band still know how to get the people in an entire stadium on their feet!
The only thing different from 1982, the first concert I saw, was that he wasn't jumping all over the top of his piano and he didn't play three encores. After hearing his "usuals" being played with the same precision and class, and being given drops like "Zanzibar," I can live with that.
The songs that I wished he played but didn't (yeah I'm greedy!) in order of pritority:
Scenes From An Italian Restaurant
Miami 2017 (Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway)
The Entertainer
Captain Jack
Sometimes A Fantasy
Tell Her About It
Downeaster Alexa
And finally
Did anyone else catch Billy changing the line in the last part of Zanzibar "She's gonna pull the curtain's down for me" with "She's gonna pull her panties down for me"!!! I almost missed it, and then I was like "wait a minute, did he just say that?" I saw the band going hysterical so I knew he did. Hilarious!
That was a GREAT SHOW last night Billy!! Thank you and your band for coming to Korea and playing for us!! Hope to see you again in the future!! Best wishes--

Homesick NYer and it was great to see you again. A lot different than 161st and the Concourse, but still a great memory. Brought my Chinese GF and she even knew half of the songs and she's only 22 and from way up north in China. There was an older Korean couple in front of us holding hands and leaning on each other for the whole show. In Korea that is almost public indecency, it was really refreshing. Loved when you made the people come back up to the front. They tried to get us to stop standing where I was, it was unsuccessful. Thank you so much for coming.
Wonderful show. The best part was Billy stopping the show when security tried to make everybody sit that had gone up to the stage. Billy was like "get back up here!" And WE DID!
Set list:
Angry Young Man
My Life
Honesty
Zanzibar
NY State of Mind
Allentown
The Stranger (The whistling was done by the sax player. He just about got it down...)
Just The Way You Are
Movin Out
Innocent Man
Keeping The Faith
She's Always A Woman
Don't Ask Me Why
River of Dreams
Highway to Hell (Roadie sings, Billy plays Guitar)
We Didn't Start The Fire
It's Still Rock n Roll to Me (Elvis Style...Hilarious!)
Big Shot
You May Be Right

What a amazing show I had seen in Hong Kong two days ago and I am sure that all of yours would have a wonderful night very soon. Enjoy the concert in tomorrow!
Here's another Queens, N.Y., guy, yeah, "stationed" in Korea for the time being. Last time I say my man Billy Joel was at Yankee Stadium back in the 90s, was it 1991 already? I wouldn't miss this for the life of me. Looking forward to hearing some of the classics, and some of the less-known classics, surrounded by tens of thousand of Korean fans -- OK, a lot different from Yankee Stadium but I'm counting on an unforgettable evening. Billy, don't underestimate the passion of the Korean fans here --- lots of "rock" bars here play your songs lots of weekend nights. And I've taken many a cab ride with a 40-something driver who passes the hours listening to your tracks!
Very excited to see you in Korea! I'm a Queens NYC guy stationed over here. I've been wanting to see you in concert since 1978! I surely missed the Shea Stadium shows, but it's gonna be great to see you so soon after. Please play Scenes From an Italian Restaurant!
