Well, I was fortunate enough to see billy joel for the first time at shea stadium on july 16th, however, my seats were terrible. Sat in the extreme upper deck which i knew it would be obstructed view, which i didnt mind because i could still see the piano and still hear billy. i was wrong from the very beginning. at first, i thought it was a problem with the sound board, but as each song went on, it sounded the same and i knew it was the seats. if you were going to sell the seats as obstructed view, thats one thing. but to sell them and not have the sound be good, thats a problem and shows greed in my opinion. how much harder would it have been to set speaks facing those sections so that we couldve heard them. well, anywho, i left those seats and had to walk around the upperdeck the entire show, stopping at each entrance before security came and kicked us out. from what i saw and heard, it seemed to be a great show. the crowd was into it as was billy, just not being able to stay in one spot and watch and listen to the show was the down part. really wish for all of us who were stuck in those seats that we get something back, but i doubt that will happen.
but the next time billy is in town, i will be going.
Quick summary: Billy sounded great, and got stronger with each song. Plus, Tony Bennett, John Mayer, Don Henley, John Mellencamp and four Beatles songs. Who could ask for more?
This was one of the best Billy Joel concerts that I have ever been to. I have seen him in concert 11 other times and I have enjoyed every one. Billy's voice sounded awesome! We drove from NH specifically to attend the concert and the trip was well worth it. My only regret is that I didn't get tickets for Friday night's show as well. Billy has been my all time favorite since I was a teenager. My first concert was in 1978 at Boston Garden. I remember it like it was yesterday. I hope that he will continue to tour for many more years (especially in the upper east coast area). Can't wait for the docu-concert to come out next year!
I have seen Billy in a bunch of concerts and never had a complaint about my seats or the content of his shows until Weds night at Shea. My family and I were sitting all the way down the thrid base line in the nosebleeds. When I bought the tickets online those were what was available and I was stoked, knowing that somehow Billy and his people were going to conquor the task of getting quality sound all over the stadium. It didn't happen. The fact that we could not hear a lot of what was going on was frustrating and frankly I thought the road crew woud have done a better job with sound checks because there were so many people in these sections, some actually left and that was totally their loss. Overlooking these minor flaws in the concert I had an amazing time. Being able to watch my absolutely FAVORITE singer in the home of my very favorite METS was a natural high, a great rush. This man can perform with flair, finesse and some attitude which I love. This man went on for hours and he kept you guessing about who was coming out. The ultimate experience for me at any Billy concert is when the crowd sings so loud in unison that it drowns him out! 63,000 people singing the same song was unbelievable. Billy had fans who were young and fans who were much much older. His music spans decades and his appeal is almost universal. I pray that I will again see Billy in concert again......SOOOOOONNNNN.
Billy went out of his way to put on a great show. The show had great song selection, great guests and I am sure most of the fans had a memorable time. That is except those of us sitting in seats in the upper decks towards the stage. The concert was an exercise in frustration. There was no visible screen so you could not see anything. The speakers were set up incorrectly. You could not understand a single word Billy said. At best you sort of could hear which song was being sung but it was little more than noise. When we walked to portals facing the stage you got a brief glimpse at what a spectacular show it was but all too quickly you were sent back to your seats by security. Thus, we got to watch other people enjoy a great show.
I am sure this was not what Billy intended as he worked hard for a truly memorable experience. Please fix this before the next show. Perhaps, he could put on one more show and invite those of us who came to the fist show but did not get to hear or see it.
This was the best concert to date. This was my 4th. time seeing Billy and I got really lucky by getting a seat in the 2nd. row floor. At one point he actually looked right at me and smiled pretending to hit me with a fly swatter and when I smiled back he laughed. It was amazing. He just seems like such a down to earth guy. He put on the best show I ever saw. LOVE HIM!!!
It was an amazing show last night, with the guest performers, Billy playing all the crowd faves, but the jumbo screens were HORRIBLE and whatever we were looking at was OFF to what we heard. Everyone in the upper deck felt like we were experiencing an old school Godzilla Movie.
But, despite the technical difficulties, the concert was one to remember and Joel can perform a great show! He actually SINGS, unlike other music stars that go on tour.
Wish I had tixs for tomorrow night too!
What an amazing show! I go to a lot of concerts and this was by far the best I have ever seen. The sound was amazing and his voice was excellent. I was blown away how good he sounded live. What a great sing-a-long concert. Piano man, Scenes from Italian restaurtant, Just the Way you are, Innocent Man, Zanzibar, You May be Right. Only the Good Die Young, Captain Jack, Angry Young Man, Always a Woman, NY State of MInd, Lullabye(Goodnight my Angel), Goodnight Saigon, River of Dreams, We Didn't Start the Fire, Allentown, Downeastser Alexa, Movin' Out, My Life, Big Man on Mulberry Street .....It goes on and on!
Special Guests!!! Tony Bennet sang duet for New York Stage of Mind. Don Henley sang Boys of Summer. John Mellencamp sang Pink Houses, and John Mayer came out and played guitar for This is the Time to Remember.
He also did five or so Beatles covers since they were the first ever to play at Shea.
My throat hurts for screaming and singing and I am sore from all the dancing. AMAZING SHOW!!! On the way out of the stadium you heard everyone talking about how amazing it was.

Concert
What an awesome concert. Three hours of non-stop music and the four surprise guests were great, too. Can't wait to go again on Friday.
What A Disappointment
