My girlfriend and I just saw the Face 2 Face show in Philadelphia at the end of July. We're both hardcore Billy fans and are born and bred Long Islanders. It was a phenomenal show: two of the best singer-songwriters ever to grace this planet together on one stage.
On the way back, we were talking about how much of the show was made up of the slam-dunk "crowd pleasers," the songs that everyone knows and can sing along to. Almost everyone sang along to "Only the Good Die Young," and the entire stadium stood up to sing "Piano Man," but only maybe one in five of us knew the words to "Zanzibar." And that brings me to my main point.
We think it would be really cool if Billy played a show at Jones Beach for his core, Long Island base. Here's the thing though: he should stay away from the crowd pleasers and play mostly lesser-known songs that he likes and that we die hard fans would appreciate. Those, and the classic Long Island/New York songs. You know: "The Downeaster Alexa," "New York State of Mind," and "This is the Time."
We'd love to see him play maybe three shows at Jones Beach: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. He can mix up the sets so that no two shows are the same and play some of the stuff that he likes. Forget all the crowd pleasers. If I may be so bold, I'll even suggest a name for the tour. I'd call it "Billy Joel: Off the Beaten Tracks, Live at Jones Beach."
That way, all of us locals would be able to see him play back where he started, right here on Long Island. I don't know about you, but I'd buy my ticket tomorrow.

I would really love a Jones Beach show. My first concert of his was at Jones Beach when he did a benefit for the Baymen. He was phenominal. Bringing out all those obscure songs like he did on his 2006 tour would be great too.
I think it would be fantastic if Billy did a show (or several) at Jones Beach. I am orginaily from Long Island, but have lived in PA. for most of my life. I also was at the Philadelphia show on August 1st, and it was incredible!!. I go to L.I. a few times a year, and what a treat that would be see Billy there! I agree, that it would be nice to have him play all the songs that typically are not played at his shows. It is difficult to determine what songs to play, because they are ALL good. Please, Billy, play in Philadelphia again, and most definetly, Jones Beach.
He's already played at Jones Beach. My hubs went to all three shows in 1991.
I think this is a great idea!!! Since NYC/LI hasn't gotten a F2F tour date yet, I'm making my way up to Albany. It will be my first Billy show =]
