R.I.P. Guy babylon

It takes a lot to play second keyboard to one of the rock piano players of all time. I play piano myself and I couldn't visualize myself playing piano next to Elton John. When he first wanted to add a 2nd keyboard player in the mid 70s, several players turned him down flat. It wasn't until he found James Newton Howard that the tradition of the 2nd keyboard player began. There were really only 2 that had any longevity: James Newton Howard and Guy Babylon. As a die-hard Elton fan, I was incredibly stunned by the death of Guy. He was an incredible musician and incomparable artist. You would have to be to walk in the shadow of Sir Elton John. 21 years in the second chair of the Elton John band in an incredible feat. On the last few albums he was starting to spread his wings as an arranger for the strings that played on the albums. Again, following in the footsteps of Buckmaster and Newton Howard. I saw Guy play with Elton on several occasions and I say as a fellow piano player. Guy, We will miss your musicianship and your artistry. Not many could play behind Elton John but you made it happen for two decades. Your music is your legacy. I don't know who will fill your shoes but it will never be the same. Ride softly into the light my friend. And Rest In peace.
